Early Rose Hill Killing

Lori DeWinkler, host of the Butler County portion of Kansas Trails, has researched and written a detailed story of a killing near Rose Hill in 1903. She has given permission for us to read it and a lot of other interesting information from early Butler County. Links are on the History Stories page; look for Man Shoots His Brother-In-Law.

Story From The Past

In celebration of Rose Hill's 125th Anniversary, The Rose Hill Reporter will feature a page from the city's past on the last Thursday of each month for the rest of this year. The Reporter has graciously consented to publication of these stories on our website and the first story can be found here.

High School Alumni Banquet

The annual Alumni Banquet for Rose Hill High School will be held Saturday, May 26, 2012, in the “Commons” area of the high school. For more details read the flyer (pdf file).

February Meeting Cancelled

The February 2 meeting scheduled for Wednesday evening has been cancelled due to weather. The next meeting will be Wednesday, March 2.

Rose Hill’s Hometown Christmas

Rose Hill’s Hometown Christmas will be Saturday, December 18, from 2 to 6 pm. The Historical Society will have a float in the Parade of Lights, which starts at 6 pm. Come to the celebration and see your friends and neighbors!

Christmas Party At December Meeting

The December 1st meeting will also be a Christmas celebration. Please bring a snack / finger food – spouses and guests are invited. Drinks will be provided. The meeting and food will begin at 7:00 pm. Please bring a NEW child’s toy (unwrapped) to be given to an area charity for Christmas. (Flyer in pdf,)

New Computer Up and Running

Rose Hill Fall Festival

The annual Rose Hill Fall Festival is this weekend and the Society will be present. We'll have a booth at the middle school gym where we will sell build-your-own birdhouse kits. The museum is open from 12 to 4 and will also have the bird house kits there along with antique tractors and a swap meet. The car show is right across the street from the museum. Come out and have a good time!

Cub Scouts Visit Museum

The Historical Museum is available for tours by appointment and on September 30, the museum was visited by a Tiger Cub Scout troop. Read More...

Society Receives Grant

Board member Jack Carr recently drove to Topeka to pick up a $1,000 gift grant given to the historical society to purchase computer equipment. It was provided by the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation. We all thank them for their generosity!

Other News

Work is being done on the grounds to erect a flag pole (the one that used to be at the Rose Hill High School) and to get the fire escape stairs done.

The Fall Festival is just around the corner and we are making plans for a booth and attractions at the museum.
